The district provides services for approximately 12,755 students in grades PreK-12, through three high schools, one middle/high school, three middle schools and 12 elementary schools. Students from a variety of ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds attend District schools. Approximately 79.1% of the student population are white/non-Hispanic. The minority population includes the following percentages: 0.3% American Indian/Alaskan; 11.2% African American (nonHispanic); 2.5% Asian/Pacific Islander; and nearly 6.9% Hispanic.[1]
Greece Arcadia High School is a large comprehensive high school that offers a full range of college preparatory and career and technical courses, unique co-curricular activities, and opportunities for students to grow in and out of the classroom. Arcadia also offers Advanced Placement courses, through College Board's AP Program, as well as Dual Credit courses through which students can earn high school and Monroe Community College (MCC) credit simultaneously, and various career internship opportunities. Teachers have developed a standards-based environment utilizing classroom activities and experiential learning to meet the educational goals of our students. Arcadia participates in the Project Lead the Way pre-engineering program which offers students an opportunity to take courses designed for students pursuing a career in engineering.
Beyond the classroom Arcadia students participate in over 25 clubs and 27 interscholastic athletic programs, with many students participating in multiple activities. Notably, our participatory Arcadia High School is proud to respond to changing student interests in school sponsored activities, offering traditional clubs such as Student Council, National Honor Society, and the Freshmen Mentor Program. Arcadia has developed a system which allows more students to surface as leaders within the school community with a lack of emphasis on traditionally elected leadership roles replaced by an open system of student leadership and involvement.[2]
